What factors have shaped the processes of globalization Essay
What factors have shaped the processes of globalization - Essay Example The process of globalization started as earlier as mankind began trading (Garrett 154-171). Throughout history, globalization had had a number of bursts such as the time of great explorers, colonial experience, industrial revolution and transport revolution. The world has progressively shrunk with economic time and space. Globalization can also be defined as a process which based on the international strategies and it aims at expanding the business operations worldwide. It is usually precipitated by facilitation of the global communications in technological advancements, political, environment socioeconomic developments (Guisinger 65-69). Globalization can also be defined as process of the growing interdependence between people in the world. People are linked socially and economically by investments, trade and governance. The links are spurred by the liberalization of trade, information, communication and transport technology. Normally, any global economy is considered as an unpreced ented phenomenon and should not be confused with the economic internationalization. The world economy has been in existence since 16th century based on development of the international trade, migration and foreign investment. The national state acts as engine of the national state. A globalized economy has the potential of working as a unit on a planetary scale and in real time. Globalization may be as a result of growth of the multinational corporations, increased international trade, and application of computer and information technologies and the internationalization of finance (Guisinger 65-69). However, definitions for globalization vary based on approaches and sentiments by the definer. Globalization and globalism are used to express similar phenomena. Globalization is the process while globalism is the approach. The two can be differentiated with usual implication of globalization being negative and globalism being positive; globalization refers to the process through which c orporations move their factories, money and products throughout the world at extremely rapid rates in quest for cheaper raw material, labour, and the government may ignore and abandon the environmental protection, labour and consumer laws. Ideologically, this is unfettered by moral and ethical considerations. On the other hand, globalism entails the belief that the world is a fragile planet form survival, and it requires careful treatment and mutual respect for all the people. Therefore, like all the values and ethical beliefs, it calls for active practice in the daily lives. The three central features undergirding globalism include communication, resource sharing and mutual aid (Guisinger 65-69). Causes of Globalization The state ventures like colonial conquest act as key drivers to the globalization process. Globalization has reflected the market forces, particularly the exploitation the exploitation by both large and small businesses leading to a lot of benefits from the trade in commodities, capital and opportunities for emerging investment and markets. The global economic integration has been perpetrated through the behest of the World War II after leaders in Britain and United States enhanced the establishment of the international monetary fund and World Bank, to promote capitalistic and liberal world to counter the effects of Marxism and Socialism. The World Bank and IMF grant loans on condition that borrowing country reduces the role of the state in economy, remove the restrictions on the foreign investment, decrease

Diversity in America Essay Example for Free
Diversity in America Essay In an ideal world, humanity would understand that all mankind is created equally; that the underlying truth of each of us is goodness, and that through awareness, conscious choice and the willingness to create positive change, we could live in a world where diversity is celebrated. We would leave behind the substantial racist and oppressing patterns that exits in this world, specifically in the United States of America. It is said that the U. S. is a melting pot of cultures, and that we are a country of immigrants existing together as a new culture, living under the values of a democracy based on freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet this policy is completely disregarding the fact that as immigrants, we brutally committed genocide to the Native Americans. The dominant race in the U. S. A. is made up of white Euro-centric people, and looking at the patterns that exist in this culture is important to examine the history, the ways in which racism is alive and how and who is affected. We all must look at how, as an individual and within a community, we can work towards positive change, healing and understanding. As a society, we have committed and perpetuated the oppression of different cultures specifically the Native Americans, the Native Africans and the many immigrants from different countries. In the early history of the U. S. government, it is clear that there was a systematic method that aimed to remove the Native Americans from the land that was desired by the colonists, with the malicious intention to commit genocide. The first example of the patterns of racism that were established is seen in the fabrication of stereotypes onto the Native Americans. It was said that the Natives were ââ¬Å"barbariansâ⬠and that they would rape and murder women and children and that they ââ¬Å"served the devilâ⬠(Tataki, 1993, p. 41). The whites held the belief that the Natives were occupying land that the colonists felt entitled to. ââ¬Å"White people also justified the genocide by saying that Native Americans died from diseases they were biologically unable to resistâ⬠(Kivel, 2002, p.126). It is a known fact that smallpox were given to the Natives as a way to kill them. Multiple examples exist throughout the history of the whites murdering, raping and unjustly exploiting almost every aspect of the Nativeââ¬â¢s culture. After committing such horrendous violations we are left with the inability to change all that has occurred and a great sadness that produces guilt, blame and anger that often stagnates a healing process and increases denial and avoidance. The Native American population has almost completely been destroyed. ââ¬Å"At the time Columbus arrived in the West Indies there were approximately fifteen million indigenous peopleâ⬠¦ todayâ⬠¦ the population of native Americans in the United States is around three million according to U. S. government census figuresâ⬠(Kivel, 2002, p. 124) and the remaining Natives in America are mostly confined to reservations. This small fraction of designated land is no longer their original sacred land but it is being raped for natural resources. White settlers not only committed genocide but they also enslaved the Native Americans. This pattern of entitlement and abuse was continued with the legal capturing and enslavement of people of African decent with as much violence and oppression. The history of slavery in the United States that occurred through 1619 to 1865 began soon after the English colonists first settled in Virginia and lasted until the passage of the thirteenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. ââ¬Å"Over the next twenty five years Virginia passed a series of laws that legalized slavery, producing a radically subordinate and stigmatized class below that of all whitesâ⬠(Kivel, 2002, p.130). Although technically slavery was abolished in1865, a linage of abuse and inhumane treatment was installed and has been carried into this day and age providing a challenge to accept and comprehend the past. In an attempt in understanding black oppression, there are aspects that demonstrate this injustice. They are institutional racism, racist knowledge and power relations that are played out in our culture and in no way have anything to do biology. Individuals and societies have created and used race as a means to oppress and overpower other groups of people. Racial oppression is when a group of people dominates another for their own benefit disregarding justice and respect through the use of violence and defining and discriminating racial differences. This dominant group receives various benefits although in the larger picture all sides loose for the continuation of a pattern of pain and injustice is insured through these actions. African-Americans are a case of this racial oppression. They were turned into slaves because of the color of their skin. It is shocking that it did not start this way and that through the power of the U. S.government slavery laws were passed that enabled the white masters to turn the blacks into slaves. This is an example of the institutional racism used to enslave the blacks. Because of this occurrence, we, as a society, must break down the residual stereotypes that have instilled fear, pain and disconnection between the races, and to change the model that exists even at this point in time. Another example of racism in the U. S. is seen in the treatment of immigrants. This subject is personal, for on my fatherââ¬â¢s side of my family I am part of the first generation born in American. My fatherââ¬â¢s parents immigrated to the U. S. , to escape the holocaust and I am sure shared the dreams of the majority of different immigrants who traveled to the ââ¬Å"land of opportunity,â⬠escaping places of war and economic devastation to begin and pursue a new and better life. Through the duration of attending a class studying the diversity in America I have gained painful yet poignant knowledge of the racism that is still perpetrated upon immigrants, specifically on Jewish people. I have recently learned that groups of neo-Nazis congregate and commit acts of violence against Jewish people and immigrating races. This is terrifying to me and feels unacceptable while we live under a constitution that allows personal expression but does not permit such distinct racist and violent behavior. I am grateful and saddened that because I was raised in a protected and privileged community I have rarely experienced oppression and hateful discrimination when it so readily exists in our culture. In the past few months I find myself cycling through heartbreak, anger and disbelief of the injustice that has and still occurs, and then to a yearning for healing and equality for all. I remain in a space of wonderment, questioning the fact that although laws have been installed to prevent the acts of racism, fear, ignorance and violence is bubbling hot under the surface of our society, and we are a long way from a complete shift in humanity that I crave. I do believe there is hope. I believe that in gaining the truth of the past and diminishing ignorance of the harm that was and still is being done we open a door that may aid in the battles that are still being fought. Although the brutality of racism is alive, the potential to fight for the rights of all the people who live upon this American soil is possible, but the truth of the history and the attainment of awareness must be brought to fruition. Heilners beneath The Wheel And Me :: essays research papers
Heilner's "Beneath the Wheel" and Me As it did every school day of my junior year, 11:12 AM had come once more to mark the end of my academic morning, and the beginning of my lunch period. After paying my one dollar for a small cherry vita-pup slush drink and a strawberry fruit roll-up, I would take my place at the usual lunch table. The next forty-five minutes were always used as an escape from the labor and frustration of the academic world. Whether my time was spent playing bass in the band room, or spent engaging myself in conversation with my close friends, I never let schoolwork, tests, or quizzes interfere with this opportunity to let my mind leave school for a few moments. Meanwhile, just a couple of tables away sat Chris. Just as religiously as I relaxed during the period, Chris would be diligently working. Chris and I did not have much in common, but one thing we did share was our Algebra II class that followed the lunch period. Most days Chris would still be studying while I was on the way out of the cafeteria. One day in particular, the bell that marks the end of the lunch period had just rung, and I was heading out for Ms. Henyon's math class. I saw up ahead of me, Chris frantically flipping through his Algebraic Concepts text book. I approached Chris and asked: "Did we have any homework we were supposed to do?" "All we had to do was study for the test today," Chris replied. As usual, I had forgotten another quiz; either that I had chosen to neglect it. Whichever it was, I never study for tests and quizzes. "Yeah, I've been studying for it all period. I studied last night too, so I should be pretty good," Chris added. "Oh, well that's a surprise; guess it slipped my mind," I responded. With time marching on I gave Chris a "see ya there," and went on my way. Two days went by and the test results were in. "Henyon" marched down the rows of desks and slapped the quizzes down on our desks like death passing judgement on us little students. At least that's how seriously some people took it. The usual aftermath of "What did you gets?" and "How did you do's?" inevitably followed. "How did you do?" Chris asked in a concerned tone, as if studying meant passing. "93, A-. How did you do?" "95, A. Good job Mike." Chris had spent hours and hours working to come out on top of me and the

You will need to get the following items: a jack, a container to drain the oil into, the proper oil filter for your vehicle, know how much oil to get and what kind, oil filter wrench, a wrench to remove the plug from the oil pan. The first step you do after getting your tools and supplies together is to make sure the car has turned off and cooled down because the oil could burn you. Next, you jack the front of the car up to a safe height to get to the oil pan plug. Then, you take the container and place it underneath the plug bolt. ACCOUNTING FOR STRATEGIC & MANAGEMENT CONTROL'S [CASE STUDY] Case Study
ACCOUNTING FOR STRATEGIC & MANAGEMENT CONTROL'S [ ] - Case Study Example Strategic management accounting incorporates the concept of strategic management, the elements of management ââ¬â planning, implementing and controlling, and the use of financial information to aid sustainable decision making (Ramljak & Rogosic, 2012, p. 56). Based on the above definitions of strategic management accounting, after the acquisition of the Boutique Hotel by Ave-Co, the 14 Hotels were divided into three regions headed by regional managers. First, each manager had an autonomous management authority over a region. Therefore, decisions such as price determination were done without prior consultation with the parent company. To some extent, the authority given to the respective regional managers contributed to the decline in financial performance of the Boutique Hotel. The reason is the regional managers, by acting independently, could lose sight of the overall objective of the company (Ma & Tayles, 2009, p. 473-480). Second, every manager should answer to another higher authority. This helps keep the managers interests and actions in line with the overall objectives of the company. The regional managers of Boutique Hotel were acting independently, thus were under no pressure to improve the financial performance of the organization. Therefore, the mentioned reason, partly led to the decline in the financial performance of the organization (Ramljak & Rogosic, 2012, p. 94-97). The two points discussed above were concerned with the control issues in the organization. Next in line are issues concerning the Ave-Coââ¬â¢s finance department. The financial department of the parent company had the dual responsibility of servicing both the parent company and the Hotel. However, there was little interaction between the Hotel managers and the finance department, which inhibited the sharing of financial information. Consequently, effective financial analysis and the implementation

A critical review of one other poster - Essay Example Significant adoption and implementation of business expansion and business operation strategies in several countries helped the organization to increase its overall market share. On the other hand, Volkswagen can be considered as one of the leading automobile manufacturers and distributors in global market places. Both these organizations are strong brand names within the respective industries in this global market place. Volkswagen entered into the emerging Indian market in the year 2011. Since then the organization adopted and implemented several unique business operation strategies in order to attain significant growth rate in Indian market. The demand for both fuel efficient and luxury automobiles has significantly increased among the Indian customers in the beginning of 21st century. Most importantly, demand for fuel efficient cars drastically increased among the Indians due to their price sensitive mentality (Kotler, 2008, p.59). The management of Volkswagen understood this demand quite significantly. They introduced vehicles in India under the big brand names, such as Skoda, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini. This strategy helped the organization to gain huge brand image in India. Therefore, this business operation strategy can be considered as one of Volkswagenââ¬â¢s major strengths in Indian market. Innovative marketing, brand awareness strategy, product innovation and innovative business ope ration process can be considered as its other major strengths. Effective capitalization on vehicle financing opportunity helped Volkswagen to arrange sufficient financial resources in Indian market. In addition to this, capitalization of advanced technological resources and eco-friendly business operation practices helped Volkswagen to gain positive brand image in Indian market. Adaptation and implementation of these strategies helped Volkswagen to enhance its
Organizational Communication of Toyota Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Organizational Communication of Toyota - Essay Example The real essence of leadership according to Toyota is embodied in two apparently simple, but potent concepts ââ¬â respect for people and continuous development. For people in Toyota, respect means viewing them as long-term associates in the business that realize in value over time and challenging them to stretch themselves and grow (Liker, 2). Toyota made a "heart-breaking" broadcast that it had stopped making cars in Australia in 2017, bringing to a stop to the nations car production sector. They told their employees that they did everything that they could to change their business, but the truth is that there were too many factors beyond their control that made it unviable to build cars in Australia. In addition, that even though the company had made profits in the past, manufacturing operations had continually led to loss hence leading to closure (Wimmer, Engelbert & Arun, 4). Toyotaââ¬â¢s present problem is a result of inadequately designed practices and weak implementation of operations on the part of the human resource department. Some of the HR processes that must have contributed to Toyotaââ¬â¢s downfall include rewards, training, performance management, and the hiring processes. The reason of any corporate reward process is to persuade the right behaviors and to dishearten the negative. However, it may be that the rewards for signifying error-free results were so high that clear errors were swept underneath the table. As a result, the employees were not willing to put the effort on growth and hence collapse of the company (Magee, 5). Secondly, the purpose of training is to guarantee that employees have the right skills and capabilities to handle all situations they may come across including negative information which it seems management did not focus on. Moreover, the HR department of Toyota had a poorly designed hiring process that allowed hiring of individuals

List of Individual Rights - Research Paper Example The English Bill declares that choosing the members of parliament should be unrestricted. As such, limits on speeches in parliamentary debates like other bills. The English Bill of Rights is a manuscript that has a great significance in the English history. It is also a very vital chapter of the rights to those subjects under the English Law. The bill had some dissimilarity with US Bill of rights. The dissimilarities arose due to the difference in the process of enacting and undoing the bill (Vile, 2003). Unlike the US Bill of Rights, the English Bill of Rights could be enacted and undone by the statues. The US Bill of Rights could be enacted and undone by the constitutional amendment. Additionally, unlike the other Bills, which refer to the amendments in constitutions, the English one describes the rights for the individuals to petition the King (Vile, 2003). ââ¬Å"The US Bills of Rights 1789â⬠In 1989, the Congress in the US received 17 amendments of which ten were accepted a nd integrated into the constitutions. The ten integrated were named the Bill of Rights. The US Bills of Rights is similar to other bills like the English Bills of Rights. Some of the amendments in the US especially from amendment one to six have similar elements as those in the English Bill of Rights. Unlike the US Bills of Rights, the other bills of rights are more expansive. ... is a global customary law that describes the understanding of the inviolable rights of individuals like the US and the English Bill of rights (Horvits & Catherwood, 2006). The document by the General Assembly has some similarities with the other bill of rights especially the US Bills of Rights. This is because it was adopted based on the US Bills of rights. Additionally, like other Bills of Rights it consists of a list of the rights of persons from their private lives to their participation in the society (Horvits &Catherwood, 2006). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 is different from the US Bill of Rights and the English Bill of Rights since it is applicable globally. The others are only application to the states in which they were amended but not other countries. Additionally, it describes the responsibilities of the international community members (Horvits &Catherwood, 2006). Philosophical underpinnings The creators of the lawful system in the countries gave individua ls in the states the ideas used in developing the state particularly those who are within the Declaration of Independence and the constitution (Whitehead, 2008). In the Declaration of Independence, the words like life, autonomy, and contentment are very common. In the Bills of Rights, happiness is connected to material success and individuals are happy after owning property. In the present America, individuals love material things and the philosophical underpinnings related to the right to possess property are found in the books written by philosophers like John Locke (Whitehead, 2008). THE ELECTRIC TOWN CAR COMPANY - Essay Example The variable costs of the product amount to 2000 pounds. Based on these two figures the contribution margin of a sale of a car towards the fixed costs of the company is 3000 pounds. The total fixed costs of the company which includes overhead related to administration costs, marketing, research and development and other costs is 150 million pounds. The end result of the breakeven analysis illustrated in appendix A is the company must sell 50,000 car units per year for the revenues of the company to equal its expenses. The pricing point chosen by the company of 5000 pounds is between 4% and 16% lower than the competition. The ETC project requires a capital investment of 500 million pounds to be invested in buildings, machinery, office equipment, information technology system and other fixed assets. The investors interested in the project stipulated a minimum 15% return of investment (ROI). Appendix B provides a price sensitivity analysis that shows the annual demand of the ETC product depending on the price point of the car. The Electric Town Car Company had a requirement of a 15% return on investment. At the original price of 5000 pounds the company produces a profit of 54 million pounds, but the return on the original investment is 10.8%, which is below the 15% requirement. In order to achieve the desired ROI the company must lower its price from 5000 pounds to 4600 pounds. At the 4600 pound price with a unit output level of 85,000 units the company obtains a 16.92% return on investment. It is r ecommended that the company operate at the 90,000 units full capacity output selling its product at 4600 pounds. At this price and output the return of investment increases to 19.68%. All the figures depicted in this paragraph are illustrated in Appendix B. An initial requirement for the potential investors in the ETC project is to obtain a return on investment of 15%. This ROI based on an initial investment of requires the company to

Miumiu Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Miumiu - Essay Example The portfolio of products of this brand includes Apparel, Jewellery, Accessories including eyewear, Bags and shoes though the main focus is on apparel. The collections portray the strong and autonomous identity it has created for itself (Jackson and Shaw, 2006, p.69). The brand aims at evoking a lavish sense of intimacy and liberty with an attention to intricacies and superior quality. The brand targets those women who would explore and experiment with their choices in fashion. Thus liberty, freedom and autonomy are the key words that drive their business. Miu Miu had the opening fashion show in Paris in 2006. In 2011, it also started retailing its products online. The concept in which the Miu Miu boutiques were designed had a liberty aspect to it in the most dramatic way possible and a combination of archetypal material and futuristic facets were incorporated in the style to highlight the unfailing courage of the modern opulence and sensuality in the style of Miu Miu (Tungate, 2012, p.192). The flagship store was also shifted to a building of historic relevance in Milan, in order to incorporate this taste and the fashion shows were conducted in Paris rather than Milan which the brand believed went better with the image of the brand. The uniqueness was maintained also by eliminating men from their target of customers. In its efforts to promote the brand in times of recession, the brand launched ââ¬Å"The Womenââ¬â¢s Talesâ⬠a project in which five prestigious women film directors were asked to shoot silent films which would have a focus on the Miu Miu line of clothing and accessories and the first four were screened at the Venice International Film Festival. The fifth one is on the making. The theme around which the brand revolves is ultra modernity, style and luxury (Liu, 2010, p.47). The products are designed by the specialists after thoughtful observation of the recent developments around the world, the changing society and shifting cultures. Thus t he brand has moved out of the limitations of the showrooms and boutiques in order to interact with the rest of the world full of diversity. All these have led the family business to a becoming a successful fashion brand operating in more than 70 nations. History of the parent company: the Prada Group The Brand Prada came into existence in 1913, when Mario Prada set up a store selling luxury items including bags and jewellery in Milan. The goods were handmade and exclusively designed with materials of first class quality. Immediately the brand became a status symbol for the aristocratic population of Europe. In 1919, the brand started supplying merchandise to the Italian Royal Family (Prada, 2012, p.5). In 1977, the granddaughter of the originator, Miuccia Prada, restructured the brand with Patrizio Bertelli, a Tuscan businessman, and sustained the business in a new way. Over the years, opened stores in various other places and met success. The brand still targeted the elite of the s ociety and produced apparel, shoes and other accessories. The brand Miu Miu was the brainchild of Miuccia Prada who started this new brand as a form of diversification strategy targeting the ultramodern women. Employee Creativity and Innovation in MIU MIU The distinctive feature of Miu Miu comes from the typical process of management
Coach â⬠The Leading Consumer-centric Corporation Essay Example for Free
Coach ââ¬â The Leading Consumer-centric Corporation Essay Abstract Fashion trends are sensitive, and customers are unpredictable. It makes fashion industry become a highly competitive market. To survive and thrive, fashion companies need distinctive strategies. It seems aspiring but not many firms can achieve. As an exception, Coach proves its success in this challenge by not walking through the same way as others rivals (e.g. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Hermes) have done. Coach has created a customer-focused model and a result-driven strategy to lead its business to overcome crisis and expand market. Even though there still have many challenges in the fashion sector, Coachââ¬â¢s strategy seems to be sustainable. Coach ââ¬â The Leading Consumer-centric Corporation Coach was a family-run company founded by Miles Cahn in 1941 in New York (Coach, 2012). Coach was famous for traditional crafted leather goods, but keeping the classic styles drove it to dramatically lose market share. Based on the excellent management of Chairman Lew Frankfort, Coach shifted from a conventional leather division of Sarah Lee Corp. to a fashion-oriented brand name and a customer-centric corporation (Boorstin, 2002). Coach has thrived not only in North America but also in Japan, China and other countries (Coach, 2012 Tsukahara, 2011). Therefore, Coachââ¬â¢s strategy is sustainable. Successful Management in Turbulent Economic Conditions The secret formula for Coachââ¬â¢s success simply comprises two components. First, it is the perfect collaboration between Lew Frankfort (Chairman and CEO) and Reed Krakoff (President and Executive Creative Director). Since Frankfort took his office, he implemented several typical reforms: created customer database to examine consumer behavior, built multichannel distribution system (retail stores, factory outlets, boutiques, and online store), and hired Reed Krakoff to refresh Coachââ¬â¢s product design (Slywotzky, 2007). Krakoff made a revolution in Coach conventional product lines by using new materials, shapes, styles, and colors to attract more customers but not abandon its loyal fans (Slywotzky, 2007). Second, consumer-focused strategy makes Coach stand out. Based on customer information that is collected through various angles, Coach can sooner identify problems and quickly adjust. In a nutshell, Coachââ¬â¢s success derives from a blend of ââ¬Å"understanding the consumer, being results-driven and at the same time anticipating when fashion is happening (Karimzadeh, 2004). What Makes Coach Different From its Competitors? Coach chooses to operate in its own way. First is ââ¬Å"selling luxury for the massâ⬠(Gogoi, 2005). Coach sets product prices 50% lower than Gucci or Louis Vuitton to attract cost-conscious customers (Takahara, 2008). Coachââ¬â¢s numerous product lines satisfy diverse market segments based on ages, regions, and cultures. However, product quality must be maintained to be considered as luxury goods (Slywotzky, 2007). Second is the customer-driven operating model. Coach spends around five million U.S. dollars annually on market research to collect customer information through private interviews, telephone surveys, competitive analysis, and in-store product tests (Slywotzky, 2007). By putting customers into operating process from input (what customers desire) to output (product testing), Coach can modify its products to satisfy customersââ¬â¢ requirement or increase production of favorite products (Slywotzky, 2007). For example, Japanese customers usually commute to work, so they prefer small bags (Tsukahara, 2011). Moreover, database shows that customer usually visits store every month so Coach launches its new products monthly to attract customers and give them more new choices (Slywotzky, 2007 Tsukahara, 2011). Third is the tight management. The executives check sales operation of each store daily and frequently review each business unit as well as the total business planning (Boorstin, 2002). Lew Frankfort even visits stores a few times a week to check their operations and directly evaluate customer responses (Slywotzky, 2007). Fourth, Coach has a flexible production process by using 100% outsourcing in 16 countries around the world (e.g. Vietnam and China), which neither Gucci nor Louis Vuitton is interested in (Karimzadeh, 2004 Tsukahara, 2011). This also helps Coach cut off fixed costs, and reduce time consuming from production to sales operation. Fifth, Coach has a huge multichannel distribution system: 500 stores in U.S and Canada, 300 direct-operated stores in Japan, China, Singapore and the like, a set of boutiques in particular department stores and an online website coach.com (Coach, 2012). This provides more opportunities for Coach to expand business globally. Coach Strategy is Sustainable In this highly competitive market, Coach has its own weapon to be considered sustainable: understanding customers and building a solid business structure. With a huge database of 9.7 million families from different viewpoints (Slywotzky, 2007), Coach knows how to make its products fit with customer demands or even how to set reasonable prices. For example, a survey before launching the New Hamptons Lap Satchel revealed that customers were willing to pay 328$ for this product, which was 30$ higher than prediction, then Coach immediately reprinted the price tags and sales augmented (Slywotzky, 2007). Moreover, with the close management as described above, Coach runs its operation sensibly by focusing on any detailed changes in sales and customer behaviors. Besides, Coach has a diversified product category (handbag, wallet, suitcase, accessories, perfume, and clothes) with various designs and an enormous distribution channel to help Coach approach many different market segments. In an interview with Fox Business in 2011, Frankfort was confident that Coachââ¬â¢s strategy was sustainable in that turbulent time, he only concerned about the macro economy: the slowly irregular economic recovery might affect consumer confidence in purchasing decision. Conclusion To gain market share, Coach chooses a unique way to operate: Coachââ¬â¢s customer-centric model, together with the perfect combination of logic (represented by Lew Frankfort) and magic (symbolized by Reed Krakoff), help Coach thrive in such a very competitive fashion industry. Even though there might be many forthcoming challenges, Coachââ¬â¢s strategy is sustainable because understanding customers helps Coach identify risks sooner and respond faster. The Comedy Knocked Up Media Essay
The Comedy Knocked Up Media Essay The comedy knocked up was written, directed and produced by Judd Apatow, and was one of the highest grossing films in 2007. Released at the end of May in 2007, it succeeded as a summer blockbuster and won the people and teen choice awards for favorite movie comedy. Distributed by Universal, the film grossed over $148 million. Knocked up follows the unplanned conception of successful single woman Allison, with unlikely partner loser, pothead Ben. After a night of drinking and dancing with Ben at a bar, Allison invites Ben over to her place and, both drunk, they have sex and conceive a baby. When Allison finds out, she decides to keep the baby and tries to force a real relationship with Ben. Despite a rollercoaster of fights, emotions, and immature baby jokes, Allison and ben ride off together in the s last scene to the apartment Ben has prepared for Allison and her new born baby. This film is important because it reveals the disparity between social realities of pregnancy and the historical trajectory of pregnancy and how it relates to the current naturalization of pregnancy as a commodity. Allison is seen as deviant because she is unwed and was drink during the conception of the child. As well as having a one night stand. But she is seen as normal cause she tries to fix the situation a form a relationship with the father, and in the end she does. This movie reflects a particular cultural, political and social situation that informs our understanding of the discourse of pregnancy. Commodity pregnancy is working through the culture industry to portray pregnancy as glamorous and even trendy, while in popular film pregnancy is plotted as unintended and framed as a grave problem. The bump is not a blessing. Abortion has since been included in various television shows, and movies, has been a major topic of debate in politics, and is a known medical procedure- whether one is pro- choice or pro-life, people are conscious of the abortion. Yet, the word abortion was never mentioned in the movie and was instead referred to as a à ¿Ã ½smushmortion.à ¿Ã ½ Or the mother told Allison to have it taken care of , insinuating an abortion, like her step sister did. While the word abortion was never in the movie for reasons unknown, the fact that female body parts, assumed duties of females, biological functions, and physical appearances are the punch lines of so many jokes proves the film makers were not afraid of offending anyone, they just had a view on what was to controversial. In the movie Allison and Ben intend to use a condom in their night of drunken sex, but due to a miscommunication, Ben does not put the condom on. The depiction of contraception either not being used by accident or by ch oice in this movie shows the characters as just accepting that pregnancy as an outcome of sex is just a risk women take- despite the fact that women fought for decades for the precautions that make this statement sound ridiculous. This movie revolves around Allisonà ¿Ã ½s determination to force a relationship with her complete opposite, Ben, after she finds out he ,à ¿Ã ½knocked her upà ¿Ã ½, seemingly for the sole purpose of maintaining the semblance of a traditional family. In the end this is exactly what happens; a drunken night of sex between a beautiful, successful career woman turns results in a baby, and an unattractive fool getting the woman of his dreams. Allison embraces motherhood wholeheartedly with Ben. Being single is the obvious second option and motherhood in the context of a man and woman together is still framed as the norm. Pregnancy complaints have been one of the fastest growing types of employments discrimination charges filed with the equal employment opportunity commission. In this movie Allisonà ¿Ã ½s pregnancy is celebrated by her employer, even though she is an on-air celebrity host knee-deep the entertainment industry, where looks and everything and bodies only come in one size-slender. Throughout most of Allisonà ¿Ã ½s pregnancy there is rarely any talk of her job, except that she decided not to tell her boss until she had to, so she wouldnà ¿Ã ½t lose her job. When her boss actually brings her into the office to discuss the fact she is pregnant, Allison apologizes à ¿Ã ½I wasnà ¿Ã ½t expecting it, I didnà ¿Ã ½t know how to handle it and I didnà ¿Ã ½t want to lose my job. Ià ¿Ã ½m really sorry,à ¿Ã ½ stating all the fears of working women and becoming pregnant. Instead of being fired, she is praised for being pregnant, because as her boss puts it, à ¿Ã ½ turns out people li ke pregnant; the bigger you are, the bigger ratings.à ¿Ã ½ The celebrity interview show even created special programing so Allison could talk to pregnant celebrities and à ¿Ã ½being pregnantà ¿Ã ½ all month. These sets pregnancy up as something that only pregnant women can engage with and understand and even implies that there is a certain language that only pregnant women can communicate. Allison, because of her biological state, is considered to have an extra advantage when talking to pregnant celebrities just because she is pregnant as well. Also, the idea that à ¿Ã ½people love pregnantà ¿Ã ½ helps build the ideology that people are generally happy when they see a pregnant woman, that there is something inherently good about pregnancy, especially when all the realities of the pregnancy are off screen. They only see her and her expanding belly, and nothing else, no father figure, no morning sickness, no swelling feet, nothing. In the context of post feminism they are telling cultural moments, especially when we women are still fighting for equality in the workplace and the home. There is still a gross pay gap. There is still an assumption that women are the default caretakers, homemakers, and emotional nutcases. Women are still the minority in corporate executive positions, political leadership roles, and in above-the-line positions in film and television. Storylines featuring women in the mass media are still rare; when women do get main roles, they are often hyper-sexualized, or limited to romantic comedies and plots with à ¿Ã ½womenà ¿Ã ½s issues.à ¿Ã ½ When something tied to womanhood, something men cannot attain, is taken in by the culture industry and churned out as a fad, a problem or a commodity to be glorified, we women need to pay attention. Pregnancy does not define womanhood and it is not even something all women can achieve, but it is certainly an important part of many womenà ¿Ã ½s li ves and it is the reason all of us, men and women, are here today. Whether portrayals of pregnancy in media are good, bad, or silly, whether celebrities actually look like that post- baby or not, whether the term abortion is offensive or not, the commodification of pregnancy in the current postfeminist context is happening and will continue until the culture industry ceases to find a market for it. By becoming more conscious of this phenomenon and other phenomena like it. We can change the way we understand ourselves and others, pregnant or not.

The Responsibility of a Catholic Citizen in a Free Society Essay
The Responsibility of a Catholic Citizen in a Free Society à à à à à Before we start to talk about our responsibilities we should be grateful that we are able to practice our own faith and we can stand up for our religion and speak up about it. We are here to be an example for the rest of the people out there who do not know any better and are falling in there lives. It is our responsibility to help them. We also have responsibilities of our own - respecting authority of both the church and government, evangelizing or spreading the word, donating time and money to church and those in need, tolerance and many more. à à à à à We are surrounded by challenges like abortions, poverty, and violence which all destroy the lives of people that were put here by God and were not able to live because of our choices. It is our responsibility to help and support people who fall into these categories. We should now defend human life and dignity, to make people practice justice and peace, and maintain family life and moral values. à à à à à Abortion is a major issue today in our world. Thousands of people out there do it today. Our teachings call us to protect human life and here we are killing it just because we donââ¬â¢t want it. Violence also is sort of the same thing. We are hurting another human just because we donââ¬â¢t like them or are mad at something else and we take our anger out on them. We need to set an example for the people that are doing it so they start to realize that this isnââ¬â¢t what everyo...

Western and Eastern Architecture
Culture and traditions have been an important component in influencing the development and creation of both Chinese and Roman architecture. It is through these norms that standards and perceptions of beauty are created. Each facet is deeply rooted in its ability to showcase the variety of actions from the structural foundations towards internal arrangements. These ideas then constitute the relevant ideas that have transformed the way construction and design is manifested within the boundaries of each culture. In the end, these differences created similarities and differences in approaches that harnessed each oneââ¬â¢s individuality and contribution to the world today. On one aspect, we see the Roman architecture which bases its definition and construction of structures and buildings under a prescribed standard and format. These prevailing concepts have evolved through time under the pioneering Roman thinkers during the time. Under this process, a system for construction was introduced with by using important tenets such as geometry and mathematics that denote synchronization and order of things. Through this, the Romans advocate the relevance of proportion, both in exterior and interior design. It is through this that they are able to create their own distinct mark such as the formation of tablinum, atrium and peristyle courtyards. Comparing this with Chinese architecture, it can be argued that the overall design and architecture is considered to be free flowing. The plan captures the relevance of aesthetics by capturing the elements of nature and blending them accordingly with the both in the interior and exterior of the structure. It is through these actions that the idea of harmonization and being one with the overall surroundings becomes important. In addition, incorporation of natural elements such as trees and plants are also some distinct facets practiced by the Chinese. Moreover, adopting relative natural elements to these structures also necessitates generating freedom and ability to garner wholeness. Seeing these relevant differences, there are also similarities between these distinct approaches in viewing architecture and design. One relevant parallelism that can be seen in this process is that both approaches denote a system and standard of measurement and design. Though the Chinese may not be too strict about this and often tries to cover this up, the two ideas exhibit relevant attention to such facet and helps them apply significant ideas that contribute the creation of magnificent structures. Another significant similarity between these two styles is their ability to dig deep within their cultural backgrounds and affiliations to come up with standards and processes of how to construct and design structures. Take for example, the Chinese model for Buddhism and its relevance with being one with nature (Zen) has been the core concepts that generate such buildings. On the other hand, for the Romans, it is their constant passion for architecture and magnificent design that has enabled them to come up with ideas such as Coliseums, arched domes, and public baths. These similarities in turn foster their individuality as each approach makes their distinct mark in the overall application and design process. It may be true that each one possesses similar building foundations however; each one targets a different path in its application. With their ability to fabricate unique sets of designs, both the Chinese and Romans were able to create a framework that is encompassing and facilitative towards the growth of their relative inventiveness and capture the essence of their cultural heritage and practice.

Wellness Perspectives Of Obesity Health And Social Care Essay
It has been observed that those with high abdominal splanchnic adiposeness or huge sums of splanchnic adiposeness in general ( fleshiness ) are at increased hazard for the metabolic syndrome. This is due to effects of inordinate fat shops on the vasculature and on endothelial map. Per Bjorntorp offered grounds to back up that hormonal instabilities, specifically of hydrocortisone and sex endocrines, are of import in the pathogenesis of insulin opposition, which is besides a lending factor to increased hazard for the syndrome. Genetics plays an implicit in function in the forecast of the metabolic syndrome, every bit good. Restrictions of utilizing the metabolic syndrome in clinical scenes as a diagnostic tool include concluding such that it ââ¬Ës non clearly understood which individual or combination of status ( s ) described above ( ATP3 diagnostic standards ) really are responsible for increasing hazard or doing any cardiovascular or metabolic upsets in the long tally, and the fact that the arbitrary figure ( 3 ) of conditions met measure up a patient for holding the syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is besides a gray country in foretelling wellness result due to the manner wellness professionals approach intervention ââ¬â some tackle one status at a clip while others prescribe a general life style intercession. The metabolic syndrome has evolved into its name from ââ¬Å" Syndrome X â⬠over the old ages ; Syndrome X addressed a bunch of symptoms associated with insulin opposition and when cardiovascular abnormalcies were added to the diagnosing the name changed to the ââ¬Å" metabolic syndrome â⬠. There is a disagreement as to whether or non the construct metabolic syndrome should be dismissed, due to the obscure nature of its being as neither a true disease nor a true syndrome. 2. Describe why the metabolic syndrome is sometimes depicted as a syrupy rhythm. ( 10 points ) We live in a society where sedentary life styles are common and nutrient is aplenty, two factors that addition likeliness for positive energy balance. When genetic sciences and constructs like the ââ¬Å" thrifty cistron â⬠theory are factored into the equation the likeliness for weight addition is raised even more. Once an single becomes obese they are at hazard for certain features that represent the metabolic syndrome ââ¬â or all of them ââ¬â harmonizing to ATP3 guidelines. They besides may meet some of the emotional effects of being overweight, such as depression or deficiency of ego esteem ââ¬â both can potentially originate and fuel ââ¬Å" nerve-racking feeding â⬠and take to farther weight addition and wellness complications. This cycling mentioned so far is merely in footings of weight, which sets the phase for farther jobs in association with the metabolic syndrome. At the cellular degree, one thing tends to engender another, whether it ââ¬Ës an aggravation of one factor or the induction of a different 1. For illustration, as insulin opposition is brought on by hapless dietetic and exercising wonts ( but particularly the self-contradictory free fatso acid flux associated with fleshiness[ 2 ]) , it causes greater insulin opposition. Besides, insulin ââ¬â being a growing factor that can advance adipogenesis ââ¬â has the possible to heighten production of ectopic fat in its ability to heighten lipoprotein lipase ( LPL ) activity and suppress hormone-sensitive lipase ( HSL ) activity. This ( over ) production causes inflammatory markers to be called upon to assist relieve the state of affairs, and their presence in and of itself serves to decline insulin opposition. Girod et al 20032 explains this rhythm in great item in a superb article. The diagram below was taken from the article and depicts the rhythm ââ¬Ës chief flow and major points. 3. Define weight cycling. Discuss the grounds about weight cycling being ââ¬Å" risky â⬠to wellness. ( 10 points ) Weight cycling is insistent weight loss and recover over clip. It is besides referred to as ââ¬Å" yo-yo â⬠dieting, and is normally measured by how many witting dieting efforts an person has made. Cycling is in regulation with Elfhag ââ¬Ës belief that losing weight and maintaining it off is highly hard.[ 3 ]She and several others stand steadfastly behind the impression that weight care is disputing. Despite the increased prevalence of weight cycling and the increasing figure of rhythms carried out per individual, diet crazes and weight loss plans are at full steam with new constructs and ââ¬Å" advanced â⬠merchandises being placed on the market continually. Though the mechanisms are non good understood weight cycling appears to hold an association with increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.[ 4 ],[ 5 ]There are several factors that may turn to this job. It may hold to make with the evident alterations in organic structure composing related to loss and regain ; those who regain tend to recover mass in the signifier different types of fat ââ¬â chiefly splanchnic fat ââ¬â and it appears to roll up mostly around the middle of the organic structure.[ 6 ]Two specific factors are at drama here for increased hazard for cardiovascular issues, one is the high sum of splanchnic fat and the 2nd is the accretion of this fat around the center, increasing waist perimeter. Both of these are besides mostly involved with the oncoming of insulin opposition, another reported complication of weight cycling.[ 7 ]The addition in cardiovascular mortality may besides be a consequence of the changeless fluctuation of certain markers that affect endothelial map, which include blood force per unit area, serum glucose and serum lipoids ( lessenings in HDL are associated with weight cycling[ 8 ]) .[ 9 ]Kidney map is besides affected during cycling by a fluctuating glomerular filtration rate.[ 10 ]One more factor is the pronounced alterations in sympathetic nervous system activity during the restriction/overfeeding cycling, which significantly insult blood force per unit area and bosom map and finally impacts overall cardiac burden. To farther support that weight cycling is ââ¬Å" risky â⬠, Hooper et Al observed pronounced additions in appetite-stimulating endocrine profiles ( increased ghrelin, lower glucose, and lower androgen degrees, specifically ) in postmenopausal adult females who reported a history of repeated turns of weight cycling[ 11 ]ââ¬â this would increase the likeliness for weight regain. It has besides been reported that weight cycling is associated with an increased prevalence of eating disorders/disordered feeding, bone breaks, malignant neoplastic diseases, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and psychological upsets. 4. Define and depict what is meant by chronic emphasis. ( 10 points ) Chronic emphasis is continual exposure to certain stimulations that elevates and maintains a degree of allostatic activity in the organic structure. Chronic emphasis can originate from a figure of state of affairss, whether environmental or internal. The ââ¬Å" stress response â⬠refers to the manner the organic structure reacts under emphasis, and it depends on the strength and continuance of the abuse. When an person is under chronic emphasis, the allostasis involves alterations in energy flow which affects several factors such as appetency, energy storage mechanisms and alimentary use. Stress endocrines such as hydrocortisone, corticotropin-releasing endocrine ( CRH ) , epinephrine and norepinephrine are released in effort to restart stableness in a fight-or-flight- or defeat reaction-type state of affairs that has been imposed on the organic structure, via either the hypothalamic pituitary suprarenal gland ( HPA ) axis or the sympathetic-adrenomedullary ( SAM ) system. Chro nic emphasis has been linked to increased hazard for going corpulence or corpulent. 5. Describe how chronic emphasis it is related to splanchnic fleshiness and clinical manifestations of the metabolic syndrome. Define and depict the part of the SNS system, the HPA axis, and wellness behaviours on splanchnic fleshiness and metabolic syndrome. ( 30 points ) . The HPA axis is a cardinal control hub of the emphasis response cascade, located in the hypothalamus and encephalon root, and regulated by CRH. It runs on a feedback system, in which adrenocorticotropic endocrine is secreted from the anterior hypophysis and Acts of the Apostless on the adrenal cerebral mantle to excite cortisol secernment ; in bend hydrocortisone studies back to the encephalon to close off production of more hydrocortisone. The SAM works in concurrence with the HPA axis to run the emphasis response and is located in the venue ceruleus on the Ponss ââ¬â though it is typically called upon in state of affairss where the emphasis abuse is non perceived as overly-threatening. During the response to chronic emphasis, the presence of adrenaline serves to close down digestive procedures and diverts all attending to the sympathetic activity in an effort to supply the organic structure with the ability to get by with the emphasis. Cortisol release, nevertheless is associated with eating and increased feelings of hungriness. Chronic elevated hydrocortisone degrees is besides known to do splanchnic fat accretion and deposition ; a good known factor of fleshiness and the metabolic syndrome. Adipose tissue ââ¬â particularly intra-abdominal ââ¬â contains more glucocorticoid ( hydrocortisone ) receptors, which finally yields greater glucocorticoid metamorphosis in the abdominal country compared to other parts. Within splanchnic adipose tissue, in the presence of insulin the hydrocortisone serves to forestall lipid mobilisation for usage and supports fat accretion alternatively, in either of two ways: one, through stimulation of lipoprotein lipase activity or two, through the repressive effects hydrocortisone has on growing endocrine, which promotes lypolitic activty when permitted to work freely. Cortisol besides suppresses the consumption and usage of glucose in musculus tissue, and at the same time promotes the dislocation of protein in an attempt to originate gluconeogenesis in the liver. Epinephrine and noradrenaline are received and processed by sympathomimetic receptors. Two types of receptors exist, alpha and beta. Alpha receptors initiate a cascade consequence to let go of free fatty acids, while beta receptors inhibit this cascade and therefore the release of free fatty acids and alternatively advance fatty acerb storage. When free fatso acids are released into the portal system, unless they are used right off ( i.e. , to back up energy demands of physical activity ) they remain in circulation and it can be risky to hepatic metamorphosis and insulin sensitiveness. Both of these complications are markers associated with the metabolic syndrome. The presence of hydrocortisone stimulates hunger which can take to ââ¬Å" nerve-racking feeding â⬠and, accordingly, weight addition particularly in the signifier of splanchnic adipose via mechanisms mentioned above. The more hydrocortisones released in response to emphasize the higher the inclination to eat more of calorically heavy nutrients. There is grounds to propose that consumption may be affected by neuropeptide Y, CRH and leptin every bit good as opioid and endocannabinoid signaling in concurrence hydrocortisone activity.[ 12 ]In footings of the theoretical account of reward-based feeding, cognitive restraint of indulging in a peculiar nutrient outputs a signifier of emphasis that increases hydrocortisone concentrations which impact NPY, insulin and leptin degrees ; hunger work stoppages hard while the wages tracts are initiated and while the individual gives in and devour the point the circulating endocrines and hydrocortisone act to heighten fatty acerb storage in th e signifier of splanchnic adipose and supress insulin sensitiveness. Currently-overweight females and those with a history of high dietetic restraint are most likely to digest this destiny. Repeated Acts of the Apostless of this step will finally take to increased hazard for weight addition and farther, the metabolic syndrome. 6. Using the Obesity Atlas and/or other resources, describe and compare the function and influences of biology/genetics, physical activity behavior/ eating behaviour and environment on the etiology of fleshiness. Which of these facets has the strongest impact? Why? Which of these may be the most promising to prosecute for bar or intervention of fleshiness. Why? ( 30 ) The etiology of fleshiness can non be represented by any one individual factor ; alternatively there are a battalion of influences on energy balance and weight fluctuations that are really loosely grouped into: biological science and genetic sciences, physical activity/inactivity, dietetic wonts, and the psychosocial influences from the envrionment. While physiology and familial make-up are the strongest forecasters of phenotype, they are about impossible to alter after creative activity of a human being. On the other manus, the physical universe around us and our concsious daily determinations are extremely dynamic, and therefore these are the 1s that should be targeted for intercession and intervention. There is grounds to back up that genetic sciences work in concurrence with the environment to lend to obesity on a planetary degree. Research has shown there are specific internal biological and physiological procedures that can be influenced by heritable traits ; one such illustration set Forth is the thrifty cistron hypothesis ( Neel, 1961 ) with which it was proposed that the organic structure can be predisposed for extremely efficient food hive awaying mechanisms, therefore seting them at a disadvantage for increased hazard of weight addition compared to the non-thrifty-gene-carrying population. Another illustration is the set point theory ( Bennet et al, 1982 ) , which entails that an internal control system dictates and regulates how much fat a individual carries throughout their life-time. Geneticss have besides been linked to weight loss as good ââ¬â Shin et Al, 2006 found that certain SNPs in the ADIPOQ cistron ( influences alterations in go arounding adiponectin degrees ) can find how good, or ill, one responds to dietary & amp ; exercising intercessions. Mager et Al, 2008 observed mutants in the ghrelin receptor cistron which were associated with fleshiness and glucose metamorphosis in people with impaired glucose tolerance, and found that specific SNPs in this cistron besides influenced how one responds to burden loss intercessions. However, good beyond the negligible sum of research behind the familial part to fleshiness is the other, good established offender ââ¬â the external environment in which we live and its afloat pool of abuses. The society we are constructing around us begets eternal options and short cuts ââ¬â 1s that were non available in the times of our early ascendants ; therefore, they are non contributing to proper direction of our organic structures the manner nature intended. The grounds is all around us, from McDonalds Dollar Menu to the Dollar Store and from wireless cyberspace to Segway scooters ; it ââ¬Ës all about money and ease these yearss. And so to prod us while we ââ¬Ëre down after lading up on cheap, high fat nutrient we have the amusement industry, which has drawn voluminous sums of attending to an overdone image of the ââ¬Å" perfect organic structure â⬠over the old ages, making this mute criterion of and spliting line between how we should and should n't look . Now the sudden rush in diet and weight loss pills, plans and regimens has left us in even more of a dither, scared to look one manner or the other in fright of being stared at, smirked at, laughed at, judged or ridiculed for the manner we appear on the exterior. So we stagger on, and our caputs down and custodies in the bowl of comfort. emphasis could ne'er be the exclusive cause of and be an effectual mark for intercession and intervention for the rise in fleshiness. There are merely excessively many extra confounding factors ââ¬â genetic sciences and hapless dietetic and exercising wonts are the major wrongdoers. The construction of American society is by no agencies conducive to easy, healthy life, with widespread economical instability and far, far excessively many cutoff options. You ââ¬Ëre stressed at work so you mindless make for the tremendous bowl of Halloween confect in the common country ; you are short on hard currency so you head into McDonalds for their dollar bill of fare choice ; you do n't experience like walking the stat mi to work so you get into your auto or hop on the coach.
